Dog’s death by pellet gun under investigation

The shooting death of a dog on Lawrence’s north side is under investigation, deputies say.

On Wednesday, a person shot a Brittany spaniel with a pellet gun in an effort to scare the dog away from property in the 1700 block of East 1318 Road, said Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Kristen Dymacek. The dog died as a result.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday, Dymacek said.

When deputies are finished investigating, their report will be given to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether criminal charges will be filed, Dymacek said.

Additional details were not immediately available.
