KU soccer upsets No. 25 Texas Tech

A pair of penalty kicks helped the Kansas soccer team secure a victory over No. 25 Texas Tech on Friday night at Rock Chalk Park.

After the Red Raiders scored in the fifth minute on a 20-yard shot by Cassie Conarty, KU scored on penalty kicks in the 39th (senior Ashley Pankey) and 65th minutes (sophomore Grace Hagan).

It was the first time the Jayhawks beat the Red Raiders since 2011, elevating the Jayhawks to a 6-3-2 record and a 1-0 start in Big 12 play.

Hagan’s eventual game-winner was set up when freshman Katie McClure was fouled inside the Texas Tech penalty area. The Jayhawks dominated possession, outshooting the Red Raiders 17-7 in the match.
