Lawrence sees nearly an inch of rain, chances of more later in the week

As of Wednesday morning, nearly an inch of rain has fallen on Lawrence.

Jeff Johnson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Topeka, said between midnight and 7 a.m. approximately .7 inches of rain hit the Lawrence area.

That total is likely a bit higher, Johnson said, but more recent estimates were not available.

“I would imagine they’ve added to the total sum with the rain between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m.,” he said.

Lawrence saw only the “tail end” of the storm, Johnson said. The amount of rain in the area pales in comparison to the recorded 5 inches of rain that Fairview, Kan., saw in the same time period, he said.

“It’s been pretty rainy,” Johnson said.

The rain is expected to stop Wednesday morning and hold off until later in the week, Johnson said.

“It’s moving out, so hopefully we can get a break and get the water moving through the system,” he said.

Light chances of rain exist through Thursday, when the chances increase through Friday morning, Johnson said.
