Area roundup: Tonganoxie edges Eudora in overtime thriller

EUDORA — Zac Morgan’s 154 total yards on offense, three touchdowns and a 78-yard punt return touchdown led Tonganoxie to a 46-40 overtime win over Eudora.

After Eudora (1-1) fumbled on the first play of overtime, Mason Beach threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Caden Searcy to win the game for Tonganoxie.

With just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Chieftains (2-0) trailed 40-34. But a 58-yard pass from Beach to Lane Hecht gave them life. Just two plays later, Beach threw a touchdown to Brett George to tie the game.

On the next series, Morgan made a game-saving tackle on Eudora’s Khalil Thrasher, who likely would have scored the go-ahead touchdown with less than 20 seconds left.

Thrasher had a big night for Eudora with 17 carries for 152 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Tonganoxie will play host to Bishop Ward for homecoming next Friday, while Eudora will travel to Sumner Academy.
