Two Lecompton residents injured in K-10 accident

Two Lecompton residents were treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital following a two-car accident Monday morning on Kansas Highway 10.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred at 11:11 a.m. at K-10’s Kansas Turnpike interchange. The report states Jose Maria Mendoza Chavez, 29, of Kansas City, Mo., was attempting a left turn into the Turnpike’s eastbound toll plaza in a 2010 Honda Civic from the westbound lane of K-10 when he crossed into the path of an eastbound 2006 Honda Accord driven by Lawrence Evilsizor, 76, of Lecompton.

Lawrence Evilsizor was transported by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. A passenger in his car, Cheryl Evilsizor, 68, Lecompton, was also transported to LMH. After treatment, she was taken a rehabilitation facility in fair condition.

Neither Mendoza Chavez nor a passenger in his car, Angel G. Martinez, 14, Kansas City, Mo., was injured.
