Woman injured in Lawrence house fire still in critical condition

A Lawrence woman who was injured Tuesday afternoon in a house fire remained hospitalized Wednesday, said Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Division Chief Eve Tolefree.

Around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday a fire was reported in a home at 331 Johnson Ave., near the intersection of 19th Street and Barker Avenue. As firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, a woman suffering from smoke inhalation, was taken out of the home on a stretcher and flown to an area hospital.

Tolefree would not confirm the woman’s identity but said Wednesday that she remained in critical but stable condition.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
