Every year Just Food hangs the bows and garlands on the meter posts in Downtown Lawrence and in return receives a donation from Downtown Lawrence Inc. Join Just Food in bringing the holidays to Downtown by helping in this fundraiser for Just Food! Your help is needed 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26th. Volunteers will be meeting at Fuzzy Taco at 1115 Massachusetts St. Additional ladders are needed.

Give back with LINK

The annual Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen Thanksgiving dinner is scheduled for Nov. 26, and LINK is looking for volunteers to help prepare and deliver the holiday feast. The meal, open to all in the community, will be served from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at LINK, 221 W. 10th St. Home deliveries are available to those who are preregistered. Many volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks.

• Donating food

• Receiving donated food and food prep: 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 25, at Maceli’s, 1031 New Hampshire St.

• Packaging meals for delivery: 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 26 at Maceli’s.

• Delivery drivers: 11:15 a.m. Nov. 26 at Maceli’s. Forty to 50 drivers are needed.

Share gift of warmth

The 29th annual Share the Warmth program collects gently used coats and blankets which are cleaned by Scotch Cleaners and donated to The Salvation Army. The program is underway and continuing through Nov. 21. People wishing to donate a coat or blanket can do so at Scotch Fabric Care locations throughout Lawrence. Help the Salvation Army sort, label, and organize donated coats 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. on Nov. 28 at the I-70 Business Center, 1035 N. Third Street, Suite 104. Feed your community

Harvesters, a community food bank, provides a mobile food pantry that distributes nutritious, perishable food in a timely manner to feed insecure families. Harvesters has an urgent need for volunteers at its Eudora mobile food pantry. Volunteers will be outside helping with traffic flow, sign-in sheets, loading people’s cars (must be able to lift 5 to 20 lbs. repetitively) and completing a bit of clean-up. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Dec. 21 at the Eudora United Methodist Church, 2084 N. 1300 Road. Volunteers aged 12 to 15 are welcome with adult supervision. Serve those with disabilities

Independence, Inc. provides advocacy, services and education for people with disabilities and for the community. Independence, Inc. is looking for reliable and friendly people to help out at its front desk during the lunch hour on Mondays and Wednesdays. The front desk volunteers will help guests sign in and get to their appointments or meet with the appropriate staff person. Volunteers answer phones and transfer calls to the correct staff person. Volunteers also assist with the equipment loan program. There is occasionally down time at the desk so volunteers are welcome to bring homework, projects that can be done at the desk and/or reading materials to enjoy. This is a great way to build job skills for your resume, help people in the community with disabilities and is a fun place to meet new people.
