Second of four suspects arrested in armed robbery in downtown Lawrence

A Kansas City woman was arrested in North Lawrence Tuesday night, apparently in connection with an armed robbery reported downtown earlier this month, police documents indicate.

Unikua Darlene Elam, 24, was arrested at 330 Industrial Lane Tuesday night on suspicion of aggravated robbery and interference with a law enforcement officer, according to Douglas County Jail booking logs.

An incident number listed in the booking logs with Elam’s arrest matches a Nov. 3 report of armed robbery listed in the Lawrence Police Department’s activity logs.

Earlier this month Lawrence Police Sgt. Amy Rhoads said the reported robbery on Nov. 3 involved four female suspects entering The Buckle, 805 Massachusetts St., and trying to steal multiple pieces of clothing.

When a store employee tried to lock the door and keep the suspects from leaving, one of them pepper-sprayed the employee.

Three of the four suspects were able to escape in a white Dodge Durango, but an employee was able to hold on to the fourth suspect, a juvenile, until police arrived, Rhoads said.

The juvenile was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

The store employee suffered minor injuries, Rhoads said.

Because additional reports were not available, Rhoads said she could not offer more details on Elam’s arrest.

As of Wednesday afternoon no other arrests in the Douglas County Jail booking logs matched the incident numbers from the reported robbery.

Elam is currently being held in the Douglas County Jail without bond.
