Lawrence Green Beret killed in Jordan

A 27-year-old Green Beret from Lawrence was among three U.S. service members killed Friday in Jordan.

According to a news release from 5th Special Forces Group of Fort Campell, Ky., Staff Sgt. Matthew C. Lewellen, 27, of Lawrence, Staff Sgt. Kevin J. McEnroe, 30, of Tuscon, Ariz., and Staff Sgt. James F. Moriarty, 27, of Kerriville, Texas, were killed when their convoy reportedly came under fire as they were entering a military base in Jordan. The incident is under investigation.

According to the news release, Lewellen had more than six years of service in the Army and was in his second overseas tour. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and NATO Medal.

McEnroe had more than eight years of service in the Army. This was his third overseas tour. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, and Army Service Ribbon.

Moriarty had more than five years of service to the Army. This was his second overseas tour. His awards include the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, and Army Service Ribbon.
