FSHS baseball to face Derby

Looking to defend its Class 6A state title, Free State High will open the state baseball tournament against Derby at 1:15 p.m. Thursday at Kansas University’s Hoglund Ballpark.

Free State (18-4) is seeded fourth and Derby (17-5) is the No. 5 seed.

The winner of that game will play top-seeded Blue Valley (20-2) or eighth-seeded Junction City (13-9) at 11 a.m. Friday in the state semifinals.

Thursday

11 a.m. — No. 1 Blue Valley (20-2) vs. No. 8 Junction City (13-9)

1:15 p.m. — No. 4 Free State (18-4) vs. No. 5 Derby (17-5)

3:30 p.m. — No. 2 Olathe South (18-4) vs. No. 7 Washburn Rural (14-8)

5:45 p.m. — No. 3 Shawnee Mission East (18-4) vs. No. 6 Wichita West (16-6)

Friday

11 a.m. — Blue Valley-Junction City winner vs. Free State-Derby winner

1:15 p.m. — Olathe South-Washburn Rural winner vs. Shawnee Mission East-Wichita West winner

3:30 p.m. — semifinal losers
