Hy-Vee recalling trail mix products over Listeria concerns

Hy-Vee grocery stores are recalling several trail mix products possibly contaminated with an infectious bacteria.

Hy-Vee’s Caramel Cashew Honey Crunch Trail Mix, Dark Chocolate Cranberry Trail Mix, Mountain Trail Mix, Mountain Trail Mix To Go, Berry Trail Mix and Santa Fe Trail Mix may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and should either be discarded or returned to the grocery store for a full refund, the business said in a release.

The bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems, the release said. It may cause high fever, headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea among healthy individuals and miscarriages or stillbirths among pregnant women.

The precise products under recall are as follows:

• Hy-Vee Caramel Cashew Honey Crunch Trail Mix, which are sold in 24 oz. bags and carry the UPC number 75450040586 and the “best by” date of April 5, 2017.

• Hy-Vee Dark Chocolate Cranberry Trail Mix which are sold in 24 oz. bags and carry the UPC number 75450041354 and the “best by” date of April 14, 2017.

• Hy-Vee Mountain Trail Mix which are sold in 26 oz. bags and carry the UPC number 75450016796 and the “best by” date of April 5, 2017, and April 15, 2017.

• Hy-Vee Mountain Trail Mix To Go which are sold in 1.75 oz. bags and carry the UPC number 75450040739 and the “best by” date of March 23, 2017.

• Hy-Vee Berry Trail Mix which are sold in 7 oz. bags and carry the UPC number 75450040593 and the “best by” date of March 19, 2017.

• Hy-Vee Santa Fe Trail Mix which are sold in 6.5 oz. bags and carry the UPC number 75450041101 and the “best by” date of March 31, 2017.
