KU football lands another Louisiana prospect

Kansas University football recruiting

One day after landing an in-state commitment from Free State High linebacker Jay Dineen, the Kansas football program picked up another commitment from one of its new favorite recruiting areas — New Orleans.

St. Augustine High senior-to-be Takulve Williams, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound wide receiver, announced on Twitter that he had orally committed to KU.

The addition of Williams, yet another wideout, adds a feather in the cap of first-year running backs coach Tony Hull, who joined the Kansas coaching staff after a long and successful stint coaching high school football in Louisiana.

Hull, who coached 2016 QB signee Tyriek Starks at Warren Easton High, also has delivered a commitment from 2017 three-star athlete Travis Jordan, a native of Marrero, Louisiana, and continues to drum up interest from other New Orleans area prospects.

“I built a good relationship with coach Hull,” Williams told Jon Kirby of JayhawkSlant.com. “The way he recruited me stood out. I have talked to other recruiters, but he is from Louisiana and knows where I come from. He was a big reason I committed. “They are really looking in Louisiana for guys. Coach Hull is a cool dude and I have enjoyed getting to know him. Everybody down here knows about him.”

Hull, himself, though unable to comment on recruits by name, clearly was fired up by Williams’ commitment.

Williams becomes the fifth oral commitment in the 2017 recruiting class. He chose the Jayhawks over offers from Ball State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Memphis, Troy and Tulane.
