FSHS’ McDonald receives honor

Free State High swimming coach Annette McDonald was honored as the 2015 District 5 girls swimming Coach of the Year on Wednesday during the school’s last-chance meet at Indoor Aquatic Center.

McDonald, who has coached the girls swimming team for the past 10 years, led the Firebirds to their second Class 6A state championship last season, winning all 10 meets throughout the season.

“It’s very meaningful,” McDonald said. “I recognize that it’s not only anything that I’ve done, it’s what my swimmers have done and how they’ve shined and how well they work and their great work ethic.”

McDonald received the award from the National Federation of State High School Associations. District 5 includes Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
