Overland Park — Free State High senior Ethan Donley and Lawrence High senior Amani Bledsoe nearly matched personal bests in first-place finishes at the Shawnee Mission North Relays on Friday.

Donley won the boys 800 meters in a meet-record 1:53.61, only 0.08 seconds off his best time in the event, which ranked 12th in state history. Bledsoe won the boys shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 7.75 inches.

Bledsoe’s top mark is 55-0.

Meanwhile, LHS senior JD Woods was second in the boys 100 and third in the 200, and junior Trey Moore was runner-up in the 110 hurdles. Free State senior Simeon Windibiziri was second in the boys javelin.

Lawrence’s 4×400 girls relay won in 4:03.21, and freshman Evann Seratte, who ran the third leg, was second in the 400 (58.83). Free State senior Callie Hicks was third in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, and junior Emily Venters finished third in the girls 1,600 and fourth in the 800.

With combined team scores, LHS tied for sixth with 72 points, and Free State placed 12th with 50.
