FSHS softball claim 2 wins

Shawnee — Hailey Jump and Dacia Starr homered in a 10-run sixth inning, Mayah Daniels pitched a one-hitter, and Free State’s High’s softball team blanked Shawnee Mission East, 17-0, on Thursday to complete a two-game sweep. Elizabeth Patton pitched a shutout, and the Firebirds defeated Shawnee Mission West, 5-0, in the first game.

With FSHS leading 7-0, Starr opened the sixth inning against SM East with her seventh home run. Jump later hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the inning.

Daniels struck out six and walked none against SM East, and Patton struck out six against SM West.

“We pitched very well,” FSHS coach Lee Ice said.

Jump, Starr, Madison Norris and Kate Stanwix each had two hits against West, and Starr went 3-for-4 against East.
