A head-on collision between two vehicles Tuesday afternoon at mile marker 393 of U.S. Highway 24/59 sent four people to area hospitals.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has released no additional information on the accident Tuesday that sent four people to area hospitals.

The head-on collision between a Ford Escape and a Kia occurred at 4:12 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 24/59 about two miles north of Interstate 70. One of the occupants of the Escape was transported to Kansas University Hospital and the other to Stormont-Vail in Topeka. Two occupants of the Kia were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Capt. Wesley Houk of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday the names and further details on the accident would not be released until the investigation into the wreck was complete.
