Heat advisory issued for Douglas County with heat index expected to top 100

Hot temperatures and high humidity have prompted a heat advisory for Douglas County and much of eastern Kansas through Friday morning.

The National Weather Service in Topeka issued an advisory that will be in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Friday. An excessive heat watch will be in effect from Friday morning until Sunday evening.

Heat index readings may top out at 103 to 110 degrees Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, according to the weather service.
