Locals advance at state amateur

? Lawrence resident Bradley Lane and Kansas University senior Chase Hanna both advanced to the Round of 32 in the Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship on Thursday at the Golf Club at Southwind.

Lane entered as the No. 31 seed in the 64-player tournament and carded five birdies to just one bogey in 14 holes to defeat Michael Vasquez, 5 and 4. The Rice alumnus will tee off against No. 2 Alec Heinen in the second round at 8:50 a.m. today.

Hanna also only needed 14 holes to get the job done against Scott Falley of Topeka. The KU senior had two birdies and two bogeys to win 5 and 4. The No. 22-seeded Hanna advanced to play No. 11 Andrew Beckler of Topeka at 10 a.m. today.

Lawrence natives Richard Stuntz and Tyler Cummins, as well as KU alumnus Conrad Roberts were all eliminated in Thursday’s Round of 64.

The Round of 32 winners will return to the course in the afternoon to play for a spot in Sunday morning’s quarterfinals.
