Free State student named candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program

A Free State High School senior has been selected as a candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.

Liying Liu, daughter of Jianwei Liu, of Lawrence, was announced this week as a candidate for the program. Liu is a National Merit Semifinalist and earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT during her junior year.

Established in 1964, the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program honors some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors. Annually, up to 161 students are chosen to become U.S. Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. The scholars will be recognized in June in Washington, D.C.
