Notebook: Monté Morris remains hot in win over KU
Ames, Iowa ? Iowa State point guard Monté Morris entered Monday’s game averaging 19.0 points, 5.0 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 turnovers while playing 39.6 minutes in the Cyclones’ last five games.
The floor general had 21 points, nine assists vs. KU in an 85-72 Cyclones victory.
“Coach (Steve) Prohm is a real good point-guard coach,” Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cameron Payne told the Ames Tribune. Payne played for Prohm at Murray State.
“(Morris) is really good. He knows how to find his teammates. The big thing is he doesn’t really commit a lot of turnovers, and that’s big for a point guard,” Payne added.
One slip up: Iowa State entered Monday’s action with just one home loss this season — a league setback to Baylor.
“Now we’ve got to take care of home, because we’ve already had one slip-up,” Prohm said before the game to the Tribune. “It’s going to take our best effort and our guys know that.”
Saturday’s action: KU plays Kentucky at 6 p.m., Saturday, in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Iowa State also has a tough matchup. The Cyclones play (17-2, 7-0 in SEC) Texas A&M on Saturday in College Station.
ISU’s game after that is a Tuesday contest against West Virginia in Hilton. Former KU staff member Kyle Keller is an assistant coach at A&M.
Maker takes SAT: Thon Maker, a 7-foot senior center from Athlete Institute in Ontario, Canada, took the SAT test on Saturday and soon will be setting up official visits, his guardian, Ed Smith, tells Zagsblog.com. KU will be one of the schools to get a visit from Maker.
