Suspect in Jan. 17 shooting at Playerz Sports Bar has turned himself in

The suspect in a Jan. 17 shooting at a Lawrence sports bar turned himself in on Saturday, police said.

In the early-morning hours of Jan. 17, Lee Simmons Jr., 32, was shot while reportedly trying to break up a fight outside Playerz Sports Bar, 1910 Haskell Ave.

Simmons was transported to a Kansas City-area hospital where he was listed in stable condition later that day.

On Saturday morning Geoffrey Eugene Morrison turned himself in to the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of felony aggravated battery.

Morrison was booked into the jail on $15,000 bond. He posted bond and was released.

It was not immediately clear when Morrison was next scheduled to appear in court.
