John Mellencamp to make ‘Plain Spoken’ stop at Lied Center in April

Rocker John Mellencamp will bring his “Plain Spoken” tour to Lawrence this spring, the Lied Center announced Monday.

The Lied Center stop, scheduled for April 9 at 7:30 p.m., showcases the Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s 22nd studio album, 2015’s acclaimed “Plain Spoken,” as well as fan favorites from his 40-year career. Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter Cash, will open the show.

Ticket pre-sales begin Wednesday and Thursday for fan club members and Friends of the Lied, respectively. Tickets, which cost $41.50-$117, go on sale to the public beginning Friday at noon. A VIP package is also available for $229.
