Weather service report: Light snow still possible before noon; areas to west hit with 6 inches

Douglas County didn’t get hit with the winter storm that forecasters had expected Wednesday night, but the National Weather Service is alerting motorists that the area may see some snowfall before noon today.

Up to one inch of snow is possible before noon today, according to a new winter weather advisory issued by the Topeka office of the National Weather Service early this morning. The weather service warns that roads may continue to be slick.

But the weather service also notes that the brunt of the winter storm is being felt west of the Lawrence area. The weather service has issued a winter storm warning for the counties of Republic, Washington, Cloud, Clay, Riley, Ottawa, Dickinson and Geary. The storm warning notes most of those areas already have received four to six inches of snow, and likely will receive another one to two inches this morning.
