Overland Park ? Free State High’s boys swimming and diving team took first place at the Shawnee Mission North quadrangular on Wednesday, winning 11 of the 12 events.

The Firebirds won with 503 points, and Lawrence High finished second with 357 points.

Free State’s John Walpole won two events (200 freestyle and 500 freestyle), while Evan Yoder (200 individual medley), Brandon Bunting (50 freestyle), Chad Bourdon (one-meter diving), Evan Eskilson (100 butterfly), Jordan Portela (100 freestyle) and Corey Schultz-Bever (100 backstroke) each won an event, along with all three relays.

Lawrence’s Stephen Johnson won the 100 backstroke and was runner-up in the 100 freestyle.

Both schools will compete in the SM Northwest Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday.
