Election law is focus of upcoming KU symposium

A topic on the minds of many in this presidential election year will be the focus of the 2016 Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy Symposium next week at Kansas University.

The symposium, “The Right to Vote: Examining Election Law,” will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 19 at the KU School of Law, 1535 W. 15th St.

The program is free and open to the public. Registration is requested, and may be done online at law.ku.edu/lawjournalsymposium.

Discussion will examine the history and future of contested elections, protection of voting rights and Kansas-specific election law issues. The symposium will feature panelists from the ACLU, Kansas Chamber of Commerce, KU and other universities.

A detailed schedule of the day’s events is available online, also at law.ku.edu/lawjournalsymposium.

“The ability to elect our representatives is a vital component of our democracy,” Cody Branham, third-year KU Law student and senior symposium editor for the Kansas Journal of Law & Public Policy, said in a news release. “This event brings together some of the leading authorities in election law and provides an opportunity to analyze whether our voting system is working as intended.”
