The Kansas University women’s basketball team avoided the first-quarter and first-half scoring draughts that had plagued them all season.

But the early offense only delayed the outcome that has become all too familiar for the Jayhawks this season and Iowa State topped Kansas, 63-53, Tuesday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

The loss was the 13th straight for the Jayhawks, who remain winless in Big 12 play under first-year coach Brandon Schneider. It has now been 52 days since KU last tasted victory.

After outscoring the Cyclones 15-5 in the second quarter, KU (5-17 overall, 0-11 Big 12) was outscored 25-10 in the third quarter and trailed by five, 43-38, heading into the final quarter.

And despite tying the game at 45 and 47, KU quickly fell victim to a 10-0 ISU run and trailed Iowa State (12-9, 4-6) 57-47 with 3:24 to play.

The teams traded buckets down the stretch and although the Jayhawks never gave in, they also could never quite get over the hump.

Tuesday’s loss marked the first time since a 70-63 loss to Oral Roberts on Dec. 22 that Kansas topped 49 points.

Junior forward Jada Brown led Kansas with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Next up, KU will play at Baylor at 2 p.m. Saturday.
