Douglas County Commission to be briefed on proposed Clinton Lake development

The proposed Kansas Outdoor Lifestyle Center at Clinton Lake would be a 1,500-acre facility hosting outdoor activities such as whitewater rafting and kayaking, zip lines, biking, running, hiking, climbing and paddle boarding.

The Douglas County Commission on Wednesday will be briefed on a proposed recreational development at Clinton Lake.

The update from Kansas Wildlife and Parks is to be the only nonconsent agenda business before the commissioners other than routine appointments and bill-paying items. The informational update on the proposed development is to be the same as was on the Lawrence City Commission’s Tuesday agenda.

The proposed Kansas Outdoor Lifestyle Center would be a 1,500-acre facility hosting outdoor activities such as whitewater rafting and kayaking, zip lines, biking, running, hiking, climbing and paddle boarding. The center could also include an outdoor amphitheater, restaurant and beer garden, as well as a conference center. The company behind the proposal, Plei, is proposing to build the approximately $70 million project at Clinton State Park, near the northern side of the lake, according to documents provided to the commission.

The Douglas County Commission meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St. To view the complete agenda, visit douglascountyks.org.
