Free State High senior Emily Venters and Blue Springs South junior Victoria Findley (1280) set the pace of the girls' varsity gold race at the KU Invitational held Saturday morning at Rim Rock Farm.

Portland, Ore. ? Free State senior runner Emily Venters placed 32nd at Nike Cross Nationals on Saturday at Glendoveer Golf Course.

Running against the top runners in the country, Venters finished in 18:26.9. She qualified for the national race by taking second place at a regional in South Dakota in November.

Venters took second place at the Class 6A state meet earlier this season.
