Thousands expected at Rock Chalk Park for holiday event

A crowd of several thousand shoppers is expected at Rock Chalk Park today for the city’s annual Holiday Extravaganza.

The event, hosted by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, is expected to have 175 vendors selling holiday gifts and other wares inside Sports Pavilion Lawrence at Rock Chalk Park, 100 Rock Chalk Lane.

For the first time the event is expanding to a two-day sale. The event runs until 4 p.m. today and also will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The event also has expanded the amount of space it is using in the recreation center in order to host additional vendors. Items for sale include pottery, photography, holiday decorations, desserts and more.

City estimates that over the two days, the event will attract between 5,000 and 6,000 shoppers. The event is free to enter.
