Ambulance purchase on Douglas County Commission’s short agenda

The Douglas County commission meets in the historic courtroom on the second floor of the old county courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St.

A month after agreeing to fund an ambulance service in Eudora starting in 2017, the Douglas County Commission consider Wednesday an agenda item that will start the outfitting of the new service.

On the agenda is a request to waive the bidding process so that the county to can purchase two ambulances through the Houston-Galveston Area Council, which assists local governments in purchasing emergency vehicles at reduced cost.

The request would purchase one ambulance for Eudora and another to replace a unit according to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical’s normal replacement policy. Purchasing both ambulances at the same time would save the county the $1,000 administrative fee the Houston-Galveston Area Council charges each transaction and make it eligible for a $5,000 multi-unit discount. The total cost for the two units would be $515,466.

Also on the County Commission’s short agenda is a consent agenda item to approve a site plan request from Broyless Seeds to construct a 5,000-square-foot warehouse at 902 North 300 Road.
