Veritas football edges out KC East

Trey Huslig caught two touchdown passes and added another two on the ground to lead Veritas Christian past Kansas City East, 32-30, Friday at Veritas.

Huslig’s 234 yards of offense eclipsed the 171 total yards gained by KC East, which relied heavily on its ground game, led by Trevon Utsey (105 yards, two touchdowns). Eagles quarterback Michael Rask threw for 206 yards, three touchdowns, and added 70 yards on the ground.

Despite its offense being outgained by 238 yards, the KC East defense kept things close with a fumble recovery for a touchdown by Josh Souda and took the lead on a 60-yard interception return touchdown by Utsey with 5:15 left in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 30-26 with 1:41 left, Veritas forced a KC East fumble, which was recovered by lineman Calvin Koch. After a pass interference call on KC East, Rask threw a 41-yard touchdown to Huslig, and the defense held on for the victory.
