Submission deadline nearing for Lawrence Public Library’s Banned Books Trading Cards contest

The Lawrence Public Library is seeking seven original works of art to feature in its Fifth annual Banned Book Trading Card Pack. Lawrence artists of all ages are encouraged to create a 5-by-7 inch work based on their favorite banned or challenged book.

Diversity is the theme for the American Library Association’s 2016 Banned Books Week (Sept. 25-Oct. 1). Many banned and challenged books are by or about people who have been marginalized because of their skin color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity or ability.

The submission deadline is Sept. 1. Drop off or mail entries to: Kristin Soper, Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St., Lawrence KS 66044. Soper’s email is ksoper@lawrencepubliclibrary.org

For more details on contest requirements, see the library’s website.
