National Alliance on Mental Illness to offer free family-to-family education program this fall

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is offering a family-to-family education program for close relatives of those living with mental illness this fall at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Intended to help family members understand and support their relatives while maintaining their own well-being, the series of 12 weekly classes will be taught by trained volunteer family members Anne Owen and Robin Wood. The courses are available for free to families of those with: bipolar disorder/manic depression, major depression, borderline schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders.

Classes begin at 3 p.m. Sept. 11 in Conference Room D-South in the basement of Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 325 Maine St., and will be held every Sunday through Nov. 27.
