Kansas softball no-hit by Bears

? Heather Stearns pitched a complete-game no-hitter and allowed just one base-runner — on a walk — as No. 21 Baylor completed a Big 12 softball-series sweep of Kansas University with a 2-0 decision Sunday at Getterman Stadium.

KU’s Monique Wesley threw six shutout innings before the Bears’ Robin Landrith scored the game’s only runs with a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.

“Obviously, offensively we need to get back to work and do a better job, but our pitching staff had a huge weekend for us and gave us a chance to win all three games here, which is the first time that has happened since I’ve been at Kansas,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “So, that’s a huge positive, and our defense played lights out all weekend.”

Wesley (4-2) allowed the two runs off eight hits over 61/3 innings. She walked one and stuck out one.

“Monique (Wesley) had a great weekend,” Smith said. “Her name hasn’t been called in a while, but she’s been working and pitching live at practice to stay sharp. This weekend she took advantage of her opportunities and gave us a shot to win twice. So we are really pleased with her performance and our pitching staff as a whole.”

Stearns (18-6) struck out five.

“Heather Stearns is a great pitcher, and I am glad that we won’t see her next year,” Smith said. “Obviously, she threw a really great game. Our at-bats were much better than the first time we faced her. We hit some balls on a line right at people, and we were making good contact. It just didn’t fall our way today.”

Baylor improved to 39-12 overall, 10-4 in the Big 12.

KU (27-16, 4-5) will play Friday-Sunday at Texas.
