Baylor softball blanks Jayhawks

? Kansas University managed just three hits and had its seven-game winning streak halted with a 3-0 Big 12 softball loss to No. 21 Baylor on Friday at Getterman Stadium.

Baylor’s Heather Stearns improved to 17-6 with the complete-game win. She struck out 10 and walked none.

“Hats off to Heather Stearns. Good grief she is a great pitcher,” KU coach Megan Smith said. “Early on in the night, we weren’t as confident, but as the game progressed, we had better at-bats. Tonight was a fact-finding mission for us, and that’s the way we are looking at it. We will come back the next two days with more info and be ready to attack. Hopefully, we bring the confidence you saw as the game progressed the rest of the weekend.”

Andie Formby (16-6) took the loss. She allowed all three runs (earned) off four hits over 2 1/3 innings.

Kansas (27-14 overall, 4-3) and Baylor (37-12, 8-4) will resume the series with a single game at 5 p.m. today.
