Overland Park ? Free State High’s softball team scored 24 runs on 28 hits but dropped a doubleheader to St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.

The Firebirds fell, 13-11 and 16-13.

Free State had 12 hits in the opener and 16 in the second game, including Dacia Starr’s sixth home run. But the Firebirds committed seven errors.

“You figure you score 24 runs, you would win at least one game,” FSHS coach Lee Ice said. “We just made more mistakes than they did.”

FSHS (4-4) will host Leavenworth on Tuesday.
