Lawrence Farmers’ Market opens 40th season Saturday

Saturday marks the 2016 season’s opening day and 40th year of the Lawrence Farmers’ Market.

Customers can peruse selections of vegetables, flowers, meats, baked goods and other items at the market, 824 New Hampshire St., between 7 and 11 a.m. Saturdays. On Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., the farmers’ market moves to the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.

Those running low on cash can visit the Market Information booth and swipe their debit or credit card in exchange for $5 wooden tokens, which can be used like cash at any market vendor.

The farmers’ market also supports a Market Match system for those with SNAP benefit Vision Cards. Stop by the Market Information booth, swipe your card for the desired amount, and the farmers’ market will match your funds up to $25 in $1 wooden token increments, which can then be used at any stall to buy fruits, vegetables, baked goods and food-bearing plants.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but owners are asked to keep pets on leashes and clean up after them.
