Mayetta man arrested on suspicion of burglary

A 19-year-old Mayetta man was arrested early Monday on suspicion of aggravated burglary, according to a report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department, said officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Chance Lane where a resident said someone had attempted to enter her home through a rear window around 5:36 a.m.

McKinley said an officer contacted the suspect, Tarin James Blalock, who stated he lived in Topeka and had several items in his possession that didn’t belong to him. One of those items was a bottle containing a prescription medication.

McKinley said officers determined Blalock had forcefully removed a window screen from the caller’s home, as well as damaged a second screen on a sliding glass door. He was unable to enter the home.

McKinley said Blalock could not explain why he was in the area. Responding officers determined he also entered at least two vehicles parked in the area.

Lawrence police arrested Blalock just before 6 a.m. Monday on suspicion of aggravated burglary, two counts of burglary, criminal damage to property, theft of property or service, possession of a stimulant, an altered driver’s license and obstruction of the legal process, according to the report.

Blalock was being held in Douglas County Jail without bond Monday night, according to the report.
