Emergency response training to be offered for free this weekend

Lawrence-Douglas County Emergency Management is offering a free Community Emergency Response Team training this weekend, according to a news release.

Topics in the CERT training will include medical operations, search and rescue, fire safety, disaster psychology and emergency preparedness, the release said.

The release describes CERT as “a positive and realistic approach to emergency situations in which individuals will initially be on their own and where their actions can make a difference.”

The course is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Jayhawk Room of the Administration Building in Lawrence Fire Station No. 5, 1911 Stewart Ave. This is a different location from what was previously announced.
