Lawrence Transit System holds story-writing competition to celebrate 15th anniversary

To celebrate its 15 years of service, Lawrence Transit System is holding a writing competition and asking people to share their stories of using public transportation.

A five-person panel will judge the entries. The first-place prize is one year of free bus fare, and the second-place winner will receive six months of free bus fare.

Stories are due Dec. 1. They can be submitted online at lawrencetransit.org. Paper forms for the entries can be picked up and dropped off at the Lawrence Transit System administrative office, 933 New Hampshire St., or returned via mail to Lawrence Transit, P.O. Box 708, Lawrence KS 66044.

Participants will be asked how long they’ve been using Lawrence Transit, how often they use it and what routes they use.

Then, they’ll be asked to write a story based on this prompt: “As we look back on 15 years serving Lawrence, we want to celebrate how public transit has shaped our community. Tell us how you use the transit system and what it means to you.”

Winners will be recognized on the Lawrence Transit System website and at a Lawrence City Commission meeting in January.
