Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded to a fire inside a south Lawrence apartment that displaced its residents Thursday.

Around 1:30 p.m., a fire was reported inside a room of apartment 1033 of The Reserve apartment complex, 2511 W. 31st St. Automated fire sprinklers in the residence extinguished the flames before firefighters arrived, LDCFM spokeswoman Division Chief Eve Tolefree said.

No injuries were sustained in the fire, and all residents and pets were safely evacuated. The cause and estimate of the damages are still under assessment.

The Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Kansas University Student Services are currently helping the apartment’s displaced occupants, Tolefree said.
