Taylor Cox plays for first time in more than two years

Sidelined because of a couple of different injuries for the better part of the past three seasons, Kansas University senior running back Taylor Cox started and led KU’s rushing attack with 45 yards on 19 carries Saturday, in the Jayhawks’ 66-7 home loss to Baylor.

Cox’s appearance was his first in 765 days, and his reward for that kind of perseverance — with regular backs Ke’aun Kinner and De’Andre Mann both dealing with injuries — was a career-high 19 carries.

“Whatever the coaches ask me to do, I feel comfortable with and I’m gonna do it to the best of my ability,” Cox said.

Added KU head coach David Beaty of seeing the veteran back on the field for the Jayhawks: “He picked up like he’d never been gone. The demeanor was great. He was a leader just like he’d always been. He never let those guys get down. He literally refused to let anybody look negative in that huddle, which, man, I’m so proud of that, and we need that.”
