A local shoe repair business is getting into the breast cancer awareness swing with a “Repair with Pink” fundraiser during October.

BKB Leader in North Lawrence will put pink soles and heels on mens’ and women’s shoes this month and donate 30 percent of all “Repair with Pink” sole repairs to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Regional Oncology Center. The fundraising initiative was launched by Shoe Repair International.

“Our customers can make a statement wearing their pink soles and heels and, together, we can support the research to find a cure,” said Bruce Barlow, owner of BKB Leather, 811 Elm St.

For the “Repair with Pink” program, BKB Leather has pink heels and protective soles available for women’s and men’s shoes.

“We want people to ask why we wear pink heels or soles,” he said. “We want people to remember the fight is not over.”

Barlow says he will try to turn any pink sole repairs around in one day.
