Lawrence man arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery, aggravated robbery

A 31-year-old Lawrence man is accused of injuring another man early Friday morning in an attempted robbery, police said.

Around 5:30 a.m. officers responded to the 1700 block of West 24th Street where they found a 52-year-old Lawrence man with minor injuries sitting on a staircase near his apartment, said Lawrence police spokeswoman Kim Murphree.

The victim told officers he got into a fight when another man tried to rob him, Murphree said. The suspect then ran into an upstairs apartment.

The victim was treated at the scene and was able to drive himself to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for evaluation, Murphree said.

After speaking with witnesses, officers were able to identify Tino James White as a suspect. He was arrested Friday afternoon and faces charges of attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.

White is currently being held without bond in the Douglas County Jail.
