Lawrence under freezing rain advisory for Thanksgiving night, Black Friday

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a freezing rain advisory for Lawrence and Douglas County from 9 p.m. Thursday through 6 p.m. Friday.

According to the weather service, a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet will begin to spread across the area as temperatures drop below 32 degrees near midnight. Ice accumulations up to 1/10 inch, as well trace amounts of snow up to 1 inch, are expected.

Drivers on the slick roadways are urged to take precautions.

Friday’s forecast calls for a high of 34 degrees and a low of 27, with precipitation likely throughout the day.
