Help fight hunger

Just Food and its partners fight hunger in our community by increasing the availability of a variety of foods while reducing waste from discarded food. Just Food needs volunteers to assist with its annual fundraiser of bringing the holidays to Downtown by helping hang the bows and garlands on the meter posts in Downtown Lawrence. Volunteers are needed on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7 to 9 a.m. Volunteers will meet at Fuzzy’s Tacos, 1115 Massachusetts St.  Additional ladders are needed! Contact Jen Williams for more details at operations@justfoodks.org or at 785-856-7030.

Keep seniors safe

Douglas County Senior Services and the City of Lawrence need your help! The Safe Winter Walkways program needs volunteers to help elderly or disabled individuals clear public sidewalks during snow events. Able-bodied Lawrence residents with a passion for helping others and an enjoyment of winter weather are needed to volunteer to create safer and more accessible pedestrian walkways by shoveling snow through the winter months. To register to volunteer, please go to www.lawrenceks.org/safe_winter_walkways.
