Free State’s Flynn 10th at state golf
Hutchinson ? Free State High junior Jack Flynn finished 10th at the Class 6A boys golf state tournament at Carey Park in Hutchinson, leading his boys golf team to sixth place in the team standings.
Flynn, the Firebirds’ top golfer all season, shot a 74, including a 35 on the back nine. Senior Matt Siler fired a season-best 77, and junior Jack Junge carded a 78, finishing 24th and 35th, respectively. Senior Coleman Houk added an 80.
Lawrence High’s boys golf team took 11th, led by junior Dawson Dykes, who shot a 76. Dykes took 20th place individually. Sophomore Garrett Wildeman added an 83, sophomore Cole Brungardt shot an 86 and senior Brent Cahwee carded an 88.
Washburn Rural won the team title by tiebreaker over Blue Valley North, and Shawnee Mission East junior Andy Spencer won in a playoff after firing a 69.
