Lawrence receives about 2.6 inches of rain over weekend

Thunderstorms on Saturday and continued rain on Sunday helped Lawrence reach normal year-to-date precipitation levels, Shawn Byrne of the National Weather Service in Topeka said.

From 7 a.m. Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday, 2.59 inches of rain fell in Lawrence. This puts the total amount of precipitation since Jan. 1 at 12.86 inches.

Douglas County remains under a flash flood watch through Monday morning. Periods of showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast through Monday morning. Wet ground conditions and increased river levels from recent rainfalls could cause flash flooding or river flooding, according to the NWS.
