Lawrence City Band announces upcoming summer concert series in the park

The Lawrence City Band will hold the inaugural concert of its summer series at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, the city announced in a news release Wednesday.

The concert, at the William Kelly Bandstand in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St., is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department and the Rice Foundation, the city band presents concerts at 8 p.m. every Wednesday through July 15 at the park.

The thematic lineup for the summer includes:

May 27 – A New Summer Season

June 3 – Musical Tribute to World War I

June 10 – Strike Up the Band

June 17 – Children’s Concert

June 24 – Shall We Dance?

July 1 – Our Own 4th of July Concert

July 8 – Park Concert favorites

July 15 – Grand Finale – Including the “The 1812 Overture” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.

The band is conducted by Robert E. Foster.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held at Murphy Hall, Room 130, on the Kansas University campus.
