Letter: State insanity

To the editor:

Here we are, two weeks into the “veto session” of the Kansas Legislature. In normal years, they would have already gone home. But here we are — still paying all the legislators, all the temporary session staff, all the other expenses related to keeping everything going long past time for it to be over.

And what have they accomplished in two weeks? Zero. There is NO agreement on how to fix the budget, how to fill the giant gaping $422 million-plus hole that they created. Their big idea is to raise sales tax on all the people who can least afford it — and to do nothing about fixing the income tax mess.

I just have to say that I’m surprised that newspapers, taxpayers and everyone else have not even raised a hue and cry about the big bill they are running up while not doing anything. A bill that they have NO way to pay for! I for one am ready to go camp out at the Capitol and refuse to leave until THEY do! That might convince them to get busy. But I’m not sure even that would work. But, who’s with me? Let’s end the insanity now!
